In every child’s life there is a toy that becomes a friend and in our house that toy is Mette (although her name has been changed to Sally by Mouse).

Mette is a little scamp doll from Haba, a fully material doll with lovely colours, fun clothing and a wonderful air of quality. She is very well made and even after having been flung about and being cuddled to within an inch of her being, the seams are well and truly secure.  She is beautiful with a shock of orange hair (much to Monkey’s delight as it matches his) and is lovely and soft!

Mette has provided endless amount of fun and is great for inspiring imagination!

The best bit for Mummy is that she is also washable!

Mouse has danced, played, sang, cuddled and more with her new found friend and I think she will be a member of the family for a long time to come!!

As you all know the kids love books, they are a major part of the bedtime routine, the chill out time and the ‘I don’t know what else to do’ time!

Dr Duck is a book full of delightful animals who are a bit poorly sick. Dr Duck comes to the rescue with his own touch of fixing things! It is really well written, the illustrations are fantastic and best of all it is hilarious!   This book has very quickly earned a spot as top book in our house! Both the Monkey and the Mouse are asking for this book over and over again!

The storyline, the flow of the words and the smells are all awesome and we have all been entertained by it on several occasion, it gets the kids (and the grown ups) giggling every time!

I am certain Dr Duck will come out as soon as the kids uncle comes over this weekend, they will no doubt want to share the Gorillas troubles and I know Uncle N will love it too!dr duck 2

It has made us all laugh a lot, and we are sure it will remain a firm favourite for quite a while!  Dr Duck really is the best doctor ever and I think he could make anyone smile!

A perfect book for a poorly child, a birthday or a Daddy!

We were recently sent the Olly The Little White Van – Catch Me If You Can DVD to take a look at. The kids were excited to see it, Mouse particularly saw Justin Fletcher on the front cover and started jumping up and down wanting to watch it ‘NOW’!!

Monkey and Mouse settled down on the beanbag and we pressed play, they then sat enthralled at all 13 episodes.

Olly is a little white van who provides BIG fun, they watched it all and as soon as it had finished Mouse wanted to watch again! The adventures were easy to follow and the animation is bright, colourful and fabulous! Justin (as always) is a perfect voice for the character who gives the kids smiles and lots of fun. If your little one is a fan of other animated programmes or of CITV, you won’t go far wrong with this one!

The DVD also includes a free colouring sheet, which Mouse insists must go on her wall right away! They have loved this DVD and now look out for it to watch on the TV too! This is a sure win for Olly fans and I think for children who don’t know him….yet!

My dad was visiting from abroad and stayed with us for  a few days. On an evening we had to find something to do that suited both him and Me and Oh. So, a film night!

Argo is a film hubby has waited for ages to watch. My dad and I had heard of it and it won lots oscars so it must be a good choice, right?!

Argo image WWR

We got some nice drinks and a few nibbles and all settled down to watch.

I am not sure what I was expecting, I knew it was a dramatic thriller with a serious story line, I knew it had the Awesome Ben Affleck both starring in it and directing it and I knew that loads of people had said how good it was, but I didn’t really know the story to come!

The synopsis reads:

“Based on true events, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and GK Films’ dramatic thriller “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis—the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.”

Well, we were in for a real treat, it wasn’t a nicey nice film but it was a VERY good film. The story is serious, but this is a good thing, it keeps you really enthralled as you walk the story with them! It really is thrilling, in parts I was feeling the same emotions as the characters, fear, anxiety and then….well I can’t tell you the final one – it might give away the end!

You can certainly see why this film won oscars, the acting is brilliant, the interpretation of the story is amazing, I now know what happened and I even felt how it was to be there!

An amazing film, a definite must watch.

Disclosure: Argo was given to me free of charge for the purpose of this review, but all opinions are honest

We are a house with a love of books, from before he was two Monkey would learn books from you reading them a couple of times and recite them back to you. The one thing everyone in the house has in common is a love of reading!

That has meant that a big chunk of our family time has been spent reading books together over the years and has become a solid part of the bedtime routine!

We were sent ‘Look Out Ladybird‘ by Little Tiger Press to have a look at! A brand new Lazy Ladybird adventure whereLadybird is learning to Fly. She doesn’t take to it straight away so there is ome fun along the way!

Both The Monkey and The Mouse have loved this book, the pictures are lovely, so colourful and bold. The writing is great, flows well and provides a fun story! Mouse is nearly 3 and wants it read to her over and over! Monkey is just starting his adventure of reading by himself, he found there were words to help him practice too!

This has a firm place on the book shelf, with many bedtime reading sessions to come!

You always want your children to like things that you liked. There are some characters that re-appear from Mummy and Daddy’s childhood in your children’s viewing, that you hope you will be able to enjoy together!

Warner Brothers brought out a new DVD on 18th February, Scooby Doo: Mask of the Blue Falcon! A classic character, so fingers crossed that we could all enjoy together!

Scooby and the gang are attending a gigantic comic book convention when a real life comic book villain attacks! Now they have to solve the mystery before the villain ruins the convention and a big comic book movie premier

Both Monkey and Mouse were excited to ‘test out’ the new DVD, so we snuggled down with a drink and started to watch. Being the mum, I did worry slightly that having a baddie in it may be a little scary for them, but neither of them were worried and they happily didn’t move for the entire 72 minutes of fun!

Glued to the TV they really got into the film, trying to guess the answer to the mystery and often saying ‘look mummy look’. The only problem we had was that they were so drawn in, they kept getting closer and closer to the TV!

IMG_2733We had a great family afternoon watching this and as soon as it was finished Monkey asked for it again, a sure sign that he enjoyed it!

We really enjoyed it………….and it is all thanks to them pesky kids!

Both the Monkey and the Mouse are entering the world of reading at the minute, although they are both at different stages of it. Mouse is just learning here letter and Monkey is really getting into the world of Phonics in the reception class at school.

So, the new ‘Learn to read with the Alphablocks’ DVD ‘Phonics First Steps Volume 1’ seemed like it could be perfect for them to watch together!

Volume 1: Phonics First Steps

Phonics First Steps introduces the first letters and sounds that children are taught at school and starts them off making simple words.

With repeat viewing, children can build key phonics skills and boost their reading confidence – while having lots and lots of fun.

The DVD is 86 minutes of fun and learning, featuring the 26 Alphablocks who make words when they join hands!

I popped it on the TV and instantly both kids were hooked, they did not move for the entire DVD and that is a feat in itself!! Both of them were singing along, saying the sounds and Monkey was trying to get the words too! There are 18 episodes in total and at the end of each one both the kids were asking for another one!

Monkey and Mouse have very quickly fallen in love with this DVD, it is a great support for their learning and they have so much fun watching it!  I can 100% say that this DVD will be watched over and over, it is great to watch the kids confidence grow as they recognise new letters, sounds and words!
