Yep, I would love to be a domestic goddess.
I want to be a mummy who’s house is tidy (although not too much as kids do live here you know), I want to have matching furniture in the right place and I want to have a bathroom that gleams and stays gleaming!
But what I really want to be able to do is make food, proper food, actually get out the cook books (that I own many) and make meals for the family, full on delicious recipes and puddings to drool over!
Don’t get me wrong, I can make meal, I have a repertoire of Spaghetti Bolognaise, Chilli, Pizza and Fajitas! When I have a spare few minutes I can even muster up a banana cake to follow the main course!
I want to make caramelised vegetable tart, curries from scratch, lemon meringue and black forest gateaux! I want to serve up three course dinners fit for royalty and stuff that makes the kids say – oh my, mummy makes the best….whatever!
My main issue seems to be time, working all day, wanting to spend every second at home with the kids and hubby seems to only leave time for waffles or pasta! Daddy does help, he cooks most days to be honest, but I feel I should be doing it, actually no, scrap that it’s not that i should be, it’s that I want to be, I want to make the house smell of ginger biscuits, apple and cinnamon cake and more!
So come on folks, help me out – how do you do it? How do you maintain day to day life with being a domestic goddess? Or if you don’t do you have budget, easy and quick, yet delicious recipes to share?
Pasta is about the only thing I can think of to make that is easy, quick and tasty. I love a roast pork though at the weekend. We buy a pork loin, rub it with olive oil, salt, pepper and thyme and roast it for about an hour and a half. Yummy with potatoes and cauliflower cheese. I love fajitas and pizza though…might come to yours for dinner!!
I only turn into a domestic goddess on rare occasions. Most days when I’m out at work, I ask my teen dd to cook if she’s not working so it’s not a rush when we get home, but otherwise, I find it’s best to be super organised and use the slow cooker
Is anyone a domestic goddess that actually has a life too?!!! I would love to be a great cook, mummy, wife, cleaner, friend, career person but who has the time to be all those things?! I would rather do a couple of those things well, I hope I am a good mum and wife, if I’m not the best cook and housekeeper so what, there are much more important things! I’m sure you do a great job! x
i completely feel you on the time thing… i wish i cooked more for my husband …but by the time i get home from work, its hard to want to bust open the recipe book and pots and pans. if you figure it out…please let me know! i want to be a domestic goddess with you! 🙂
I have to say that I am not a domestic goddess at all so I really wouldn’t know. I am in a hotel room having eating a microwave meal for tea as I’m away for Toy Fair, so really finding it hard to imagine what meals are all about. I do love to cook at home though. I’m just not very good at being tidy afterwards. I’ll be back in the thick of it on Friday lol :o)
My budget meal is to use whatever vegetables you have, a tin of tomatoes, a vegetable stock cube, pasta and sprinkle some cheese on top.
Thanks for your brilliant input tonight. It’s so nice to see your blog going from strength to strength.

My house is full of the smell of fresh home-made risotto and Bakewell tart today. I did make the tarts with the assistance of my 2 and 4 year olds, so my kitchen looks like it snowed indoors just now, but sod it. I’m lucky, I don’t go out to work at the moment, so have a bit of time. That time has allowed me to practice my cooking on my family of 8, sometimes with disastrous results, but always getting easier and coming more naturally. It gets quicker, plus I’m the type of cook who wander off rather than nursing it or I’d never have the time either. As for the gleaming tiles and polished floors – I pay the teenagers their pocket money to clean for me… 😀
