Doing Something Yummy

This post is written for the very important campaign being supported by Nickie over on the Typecast Blog, CLIC Sargent wants parents and bloggers to get involved with their Yummy Mummy week which is being held from 10th to 18th March 2012 and Nickie is offering writing prompts for bloggers to join in and raise awareness, this is the fourth and final week, So if you are a blogger – please join in!

The prompt: Yummy post. Do you know someone who has had cancer and survived?

Well, I guess Yes and No. Is that possible? I think so, I have known people beat cancer to go on and get a secondary cancer and unfortunately lose their battle. I like many don’t like to talk about the C word, almost pretend it doesn’t exist. I wish I was braver, but I don’t like to think about the devastation it can cause when someone doesn’t survive!

The one brief story I will share is that of my hubby’s uncle. He was diagnosed with throat cancer, he went through hellish treatment but he beat it! Sadly, there he has now been diagnosed with secondary cancer, and much to our denial this time it is terminal. But, do you know what – he is surviving, he is enjoying time with his wife, living his life and taking each day as it comes!

So do I know someone who has had cancer and has survived, no I know someone who has cancer and is surviving, we just have to take a bit of his attitude too and take each day as it comes!

Oh my word!

Britmums Live 2012 Meet and Greet

When was the last time you got together with a group of friends?

The first thing I thought when I read the prompt was, ‘I can’t remember’, I mean I am a full time working mother of two under 4s – when do I get chance to get together with friends?! But then I thought about it a bit more and realised that it was more recent than I think. It may not be a massive group, sometimes it is only two (well with me and hubby that makes it a group – right?!).

So when was the last time? Well last week at work I was with a group of friends, I don’t go to work to socialise, but after working somewhere for over six years, some of my colleagues have become friends, so last week I had lunch with friends, coffee with friends and on more than one occasion we put the world to rights too!

There is a couple we know, like, well love really! It has been a couple of weeks but we had them round for dinner (takeaway counts) and it was fab! We don’t get to see them as much as we would like, but thats life; work, family and other stuff gets in the way, having two little ones means that evenings are difficult for us to get out too, and they often have to come to us but when we get together it is great!

The only time hubby and I have had all our friends together in the same room, at the same time was five years ago, it was a party, well a celebration, a very important day that we were thrilled to share with all, it was our wedding day! I loved having everyone together on a happy occasion, although I couldn’t do it every week!

But my best friend of all is the other half! We laugh, joke, play and just be together, and although it isn’t a group – I love it!

Is there such a thing as a perfect family moment! What is it? When everyone is happy, healthy, quiet?

Hmmm I am not sure a ‘perfect’ family moment exists in a traditional sense, but what is my perfect family moment? I would have to say it is being together, the four of us, probably being noisy – healthy is a bonus, happy even better, but quiet? Never! If the two little ones are quiet it usually means they are coming down with an illness, are unhappy or up to no good!

I love watching Legs role play, even if it is constantly a very noisy Star Wars role-play! I love watching Mouse learn, she is really discovering the world, looking, reading, watching and a lot of new words – loud words! They sing at the top of their voices, shout when they want a cuddle and cheer at the smallest things!

So my perfect family moment? It’s a noisy one I am afraid!

Appliances Online Cookers Yummy Food Competition

There is a drawing competition running over on the Madhouse Family Reviews Blog and as my little ones love to draw we decided to take up the challenge!

Bedtimes Tips

Here is a my 3 best sleep tips

1) Bedtime routine – as much as I don’t like routines, a bedtime routine is a good idea. The routine indicates to your little one when it is sleep time, as soon as the routine starts they begin to wind down (most of the time!). Our routine isn’t classed as normal, it is not bath, milk, bed – never has been, both of my kids love the bath and this has led to hyperactivity at bedtime. So our routine is Calm down play, PJs, books downstairs and then last book in bed, cuddles and light out!

2) Comfort – ensure the bed and bedroom is this right environment for your child to sleep in. The right temperature, teddies/blanket and the right sized bed!

3) Cuddles! Always finish the night off we a cuddle and/or kiss and an ‘I love you’!

These won’t guarantee sleep every night, but they work for us. Also, now they are used to sleeping we don’t have to follow these to the letter every night, just most for consistency!
